Jefferson Grainger
The first ten years of Jefferson's film making career have led him to some remarkable encounters. Living with polar bears in the Arctic, travelling on Viking warships in Greenland, travelling for 6 months with a team of firemen to film their every emergency. But the one encounter that will stand vivid in his memory is the day he tangled with a large crocodile that had leapt from the water to snatch his camera out of his hands. The croc had leapt some four metres out of the water, just high enough to snap its jaws around Jefferson's camera. Minutes before, Jefferson had had the camera strapped to his hand. Had he not removed the strap, he would have been dragged into the water for a terrifying encounter with the croc. As it was, the camera was well chewed for an hour, but Jefferson did manage to retrieve it... and the camera tape, with images intact.
Jefferson has been filming up to 8 documentaries a year, many of which have been bought by major international broadcasters such as National Geographic and Discovery. The 7 part series AUSTRALIA'S DEADLIEST DESTINATIONS that Jefferson filmed was commissioned by Channel 7 Australia, and re-broadcast by B SKY B across Britain, and the Australia Network across Asia and the Pacific.
On the sub Antarctic island of South Georgia, he trekked in deep snow with a heavy camera to film an expedition re-tracing the final crossing by Sir Ernest Shackleton. And in Tahiti, for a one hour special for the US Travel Channel, he followed Miss Tahiti with a camera to capture some stunning images.
From Mexico to the Mekong, from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean, and from China to Canada, Jefferson has filmed many impressive expeditions, seen these days by tens of millions of viewers around the world.
